MY EXTENDED (CANINE) FAMILY

There's more than pugs and blood relatives in a pug family, and here are some other dogs I think of as part of my extended family.

First, there is Tasha, or was. . .  She was a pink-nosed Husky and had been a member of the Datz family for many years before I arrived. She died in 2006, and we do miss her. She was a nice lady and, even though she didn't play with me much, she was very protective of me. Tasha was definitely the Alpha dog around here.
Dodger also lives with us, and is the Beta dog of the family. (I guess that makes me the "Gamma" dog.) He likes to play roughhouse with me, and lets me run, jump and play around him -- and on him. But he's a loving dog and is very gentle with me. Tasha, I think, makes sure of that!

Cisco doesn't live with us. He's part of the Bonilla family, but he has traveled with us on motor home trips. Tasha and Dodger don't usually go on these trips, and it's good to have another dog to hang around with on these adventures. Earlier this year Cisco moved to Hawaii to live with Bill Bonilla. Try as I might, I just can't picture him in a hula skirt and eating poy.
This is Breeny. She lives with Kathy, a friend of the family, and I've stayed at her house when my humans went on a trip without me. Like me, she's a little dog, and it's a nice change from always being surrounded by big dogs and big humans.

This is a picture of Dodger I -- having claimed the name before our Dodger. He lives in Connecticut with the Fishel family. I've never met him, but I guess he's considered a cousin by marriage.
And here's Cassie, another "cousin" of mine. She is part of the Mabey family (along with two cats), and lives in Virginia. We've also never actually met, but if we ever did, I'm sure she would let her hair down to play and romp with me.

This is Beau, a Chihuahua, who lives with Joyce, a family friend who works with my human mom. He's even smaller than I am, but I'm sure he also thinks he's really a "big dog."
Another friend is Nina. She's a white boxer, something I had never seen before! Nina lives with the VanHagen family, and her human mom calls her a real "scardy-dog." She's a lot bigger than I am, but I keep telling them, "I'm a big dog too -- big heart anyway!"

One of my latest friends is Lucky. He is a yellow Lab -- still just a puppy. He lives with Kim, a good friend of my Human Mom. He's probably going to grow up to be a big, playful doggie, and he'll sure have a lot of fun over at that house!
And here's Dexter! He's was brand new when this picture was taken and a recent addition to the Maguire family's household. He's not related to me, but he sure looks like I did when I was just a little pup. And he certainly has a mischievous look on his face -- a look indicating he's going to get into a lot of trouble before he gets beyond puppyhood.

Well, whatdayaknow: Another Gus! We haven't met him personally, but he looks like he will live up to the "Tough Guy" name, just like our Gus. I wonder if his family calls him "Goose" (short for "Gustav" or "Gustavus") like my human father calls our Gus. I hope not. I mean, it's so humiliating at times. But I guess that's just the way humans are. For instance, you never see them chewing on a good old raggedly Puffy Toy. Well, hardly ever!

Good luck, Gus 2. That look on your face kind of shows that you've already taken charge of the Hvidsten family, and have everything under Pug control.

Here's another new friend! This is Toody, and she is part of the Huffman household way up in North Pole, Alaska -- you know, the place where Santa comes from.

She has quite a bit more fur than a Pug, and I'm sure she needs it when the cold, cold winter comes!

Toody even sent a Christmas card to Gus and me this year. That was really nice.

This is Kyra. She lives with Wayne and Wendy Spivak out on Long Island. Wayne is part of what some folks in the Coast Guard Auxiliary call "The Wild Bunch," but Kyra looks like she must be a tempering factor.
Here's my newest friend, Ladybug. She lives with Jim and Patti Yount up in Washington State. Jim is a member of the Coast Guard CW Operators Association.

Jim says that Ladybug "is a nut." Really? Well, I'd say that all pugs are 'nuts' and she is just as special as the rest of us!
